This piece of a woman is a simple yet chaotic sketch that addresses the issue of body shaming. The artwork has multiple inappropriate and negative words and comments surrounding the woman's face, which portray the constant judgment and criticism that people face. I used different fonts to symbolise how all kinds of people make comments about our bodies. The arrows and lines mirror how people place demands on how our features should look. The stitch marks are similar to those that are made during various surgeries, such as plastic surgery. This aims to highlight how we feel the need to change ourselves to fit the ideal standard of beauty. There are some words inside the face while others outside that portray how despite having the thickest of skin, the criticism does to get a person. This piece is a reminder that all our so-called "flaws" are the little things that make us unique and beautiful.
The ideal standard of beauty is so ingrained in our mindsets today... We need people like you and artwork like this to remind us that that standard is just that- a standard, nothing more. Thank you for contributing, Zahra!
